Polyvore

Okay, this website is something I absolutely HAVE TO share with everyone.  It's called polyvore (www.polyvore.com), and it is one of the best things I have discovered in a while.  I've known about it for a while, but only recently have I actually started to use it.  It's a website where you can connect and share with other fashion lovers, as well as create "sets" of clothing to show off your fabulous style.  I also love that you can keep up-to-date on all the most current trends.  I highly recommend it.  :)

I'm Back!

I can't believe it's been over two months since I last posted!  Sorry it's been so long, I've been busy getting back to school, and everything's been kinda crazy lately.  But, now that I'm settled in, I'm ready to get back to posting regularly to keep you updated on the latest and greatest.  :)
So, I've been watching this show lately, and I think I'm kind of obsessed.  What is it you ask?  It is... Project Runway.  It's on Lifetime every Thursday at 8:00 (Eastern Time), and I'm always watching!  I think the level of talent on that show is amazing, and I love to see how creative the designers are during the challenges.  So far, my favorite is Anya.  Her style is kind of modern and urban, which I think meshes nicely with my own style.  So, for all you fellow fashionistas, I definitely recommend checking out the show!  Hopefully you'll love it as much as I do.  XOXO

Plaid

Plaid and tartan are back!  This season, plaid and tartan designs were all over the runways, showing up in heavy outerwear, preparing us for colder weather.  I have to say, I'm excited!  It's definitely a very fun and versatile design, and it can be worn in all sorts of stylish ways to spice up cold winter days (hey, that rhymed!).  But since we're still in the final blissful months of summer, I'm crushing on these plaid menswear shorts from Delia's.

So cute!  But, once colder days come in, I can absolutely see myself rocking a plaid overcoat like this one (also from Delia's).

     Bring on the plaid!

The Pixie Cut

The Pixie Cut.  It's a haircut that is boyish yet feminine at the same time, and it seems to be cropping up all over Hollywood (No pun intended, of course!).

It can look like this...

Or this...

 Or this.

But many women are apprehensive about getting the hair cut so short.  What if I look like a guy?  What if I hate it?  What if my boyfriend/husband/sister/friends hate it?  A couple yeas ago, I couldn't imagine myself with a cut like this.  A couple months, even.  But recently, it's been growing on me... so, yesterday, I went to the salon to get my hair cut in a Carey Mulligan-style pixie.

Like this.

I feel like I'm lucky enough to have some pretty good facial features, and I should take advantage of them.  I love the way it looks and feels- I couldn't be happier with it!

Jonathan Cohen!

As I was surfing the web, I found a picture of a stunning dress designed by an up-and-coming designer named Jonathan Cohen.

There are not words to describe how much I love this.  I love the primary color scheme, and also the fact that it has that loose, floaty feel (because of that piece in the back) while still remaining fairly fitted through the actual dress part.  His collection was inspired by "painted brushstrokes," and may I say, those risks paid off!  He is certainly a young designer that I will be watching.

Shoe Lust

Ah, we all know the great lust of a particularly adorable shoe.  For me, it happens to be this pair of ankle boots from Forever 21.

These would be perfect for winter, and I looove the dark brown color.  I'm considering just driving on down to the nearest Forever 21 to get myself a pair as soon as I can...
I feel like they could add a little bit of toughness to a really girly outfit.  I could definitely imagine myself wearing these with a floral dress, a cardigan and some lace leggings.  But we'll see, maybe I'll find something I like even more.

I'm Jealous of Emma Watson!

Okay, so Emma Watson's pixie haircut isn't exactly "new-" she's had her hair short since Harry Potter filming wrapped last summer!  But her new hair is still getting a lot of buzz- mostly because she looked so fabulous at the premier of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:  Part two in London.  Her short but sweet pixie cut looked stunning, her make-up was perfect, and her Oscar de la Renta gown is to die for.
But Emma isn't just wearing the fashion anymore, she's creating it!  She's currently taking design and fabric-cutting classes, and is working on her own line of clothing.  She's already teamed up with People Tree and Alberta Ferreti to create some eco-friendly clothing, so she's no stranger to the profession.
Well, I say good for you, Emma!  Her sense of style is amazing, and she looks great no matter what.  I'm excited to see what her next step will be!

Kate Middleton's Dress

Kate Middleton's dress is on display in London!  (read about it here:  http://news.yahoo.com/catherines-wedding-dress-goes-display-london-101122437.html)

Although I probably won't be able to see it in person, I think it's very cool.  This dress is kind of a fashion icon, as is Kate Middleton.  I'm so very jealous of her amazing style choices- she always looks so elegant and polished.
True to form, Kate looked modern and stylish on her wedding day, without being too revealing.  Congrats to Sarah Burton for designing such a beautiful dress!

Thrift Stores!

EEP!  Yesterday, I did a Google search on "In the Name of Fashion," and found out that there is already a website by this exact name.  I did not know this prior to making this blog, so I'm very sorry for the name mix-up.  In hindsight, it probably would've been smart to do a google search before creating this blog but, alas, there isn't much I can do about it now....

But, I would like to talk about something on a much happier note... Thrift Stores!  Yes, thrift stores are awesome!  Well, let me amend that statement.  They can be awesome.  Or, they can be filled with old junk that your granny might wear.  But, occasionally you'll find something so amazing that you can't believe anyone would ever want to give it away.  Like this Vintage handbag by Fossil that I found the other day.

Like, seriously.  Why wouldn't you want this?  I happen to have a soft spot for leather bags, so this one was a perfect fit.  And the best part?  It secretly goes with everything I own (shh, don't tell!).  I got a couple other cool things, but this bag was definitely my favorite find of the day.
So, even though, yes, thrift store items are "secondhand," that doesn't mean you can't find something fabulous.  So, next time you're out, try to hit up a thrift store to find something totally unique.

First Post!

Hi!  I'm Meg, a normal girl with an abnormal taste in fashion and beauty.  I'm not quite sure where this blog will take me, but it should be interesting...
